Fiber Characterization

Free IPSDK Explorer plugin to guide you in analyzing your 2D or 3D fiber structure.

3D fiber composite, µCT XRay acquisition

Carbon fibers, Light microscopy acquisition

General description

The IPSDK Explorer free-of-charge Fiber Characterization plugin enables you to detect, quantify and analyze fibers from your 2D or 3D images.

Based on robust image processing techniques, it is designed to extract fiber geometrical characteristics from a material or a structure.

This plugin is ideally adapted for analyzing materials such as composites, biological tissues or industrial fiber structures. It provides rapid access to key information like fiber length, orientation and mean diameter.

The fiber plugin is particularly relevant to a wide variety of fields:

  • Composite materials: fiber orientation and dispersion characterization
  • Biology: collagen network, axon or muscular fiber analysis
  • Textiles: Quality inspection for woven and non-woven structures
  • Industry: control of anisotropic porosity or fibrous reinforcements

No need to be an Image Analysis expert to extract and measure granulometry in your images.

IPSDK Explorer proposes a dedicated Fiber Analysis plugin to extract and measure the fibrous materials acquired from 2D or 3D acquisition devices such as

  • Light microscopes,
  • Electronic microscopes (SEM or TEM),
  • FIB SEM,
  • Xray 2D or 3D,

This free Plugin is designed and dedicated to guide and support you through easy steps to extract relevant metrics out of your images such as

  • Individual Fiber Length
  • Individual Fiber orientation
  • Individual Fiber diameter (2D only or via 3D reconstruction)
  • Fiber Gravity center coordinates
  • Global statistics such as
      • minimum,
      • maximum,
      • mean value,
      • standard deviation,
      • quantiles

These values can be saved in a spreadsheet form for further exploitation in a third-party application (Excel, Python, R…).

Once your settings are defined and stored, you can use them automatically as a “press button application” image per image or using batch processing on every image in a folder.
