Ring artifact removal

Removal of ring artifacts while preserving image details.

Reactiv’IP provides its users with a ring artifact removal feature in IPSDK Explorer.

These artifacts, common in tomographic acquisitions, are generally caused by detector response variations or defective pixels, and appear as circular patterns that can degrade image quality and impact analyses.

The denoising principle consists in unrolling the image to convert circular patterns into linear structures. A VSNR filtering is then applied to remove these lines, after which the image is re-rolled to restore its original geometry.

The processing can be applied to 2D images or directly to 3D volumes, with slice-by-slice correction, enabling easy integration into reconstruction or post-processing workflows.
